About the Book A complete framework on Republic Act No. 10533, otherwise known as Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, this book provides, in a comparative manner, how this law affects previous education policies and laws pertaining to educational institutions and their academic personnel. It provides a panoramic view of the enhanced basic education system, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and the emphasis of the State on its importance by making it compulsory. It also lays down a suitable guide for private educational institutions during the transition stage contemplated by this law. As part of the technical working group that drafted the K to 12 bills, and a resource person at the K to 12 Steering Committee, Atty. Joseph Noel M. Estrada explains the legal implications, and transition issues and challenges of the K to 12 Program. On the other hand, Atty. Kristjan Vicente T. Gargantiel, a seasoned legal consultant of several Divisions of Schools of the Department of Education, provides invaluable inputs in the implementation of K to 12. K to 12: R.A. No. 10533 and Relevant Education Policies is a rich source of fresh knowledge and analysis of education principles. Reviews “The book is a complete resource book not only for school administrators and leaders but also to policy-shapers in education. With the long transition period towards the K to 12 Program, a lot of future laws and administrative rules and regulations will be grounded on RA No. 10533.” —Hon. Roman T. Romulo, Congressman, Lone District, Pasig City “The discussions in this book range from the core constitutional basis to its effect on private schools and partner institutions, to how it affects other already-enacted education policies and DepEd programs. Also outlined are professional and corporate concerns like transition plans for private institutions.” —Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC, Secretary, Department of Education “[This book] summarizes the status of law and its implications for stakeholders in twelve informative chapters. It is highly recommended for all interested in understanding the key concerns of basic educational reform in the Philippines today, and a must-read for educational administrators and advocates in the Philippines today, especially those needing to navigate the K to 12 transition. The latter will find the chapters on Teacher Qualifications and Hiring (Chapter X), E-GASTPE and Other Financial Arrangements (Chapter XI) and Transition of Private Institutional to K-12 (Chapter XII) particularly helpful.” —Rev. Fr. Joel Tabora, SJ, President, Ateneo de Davao University Davao City
