Tug of War

The arbitration committee is finally coming out with its decision on the long-festering quarrel between Camp John Hay Development Corp. (CJHDevCo), developer of the former American recreation camp, and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). The latter under Arnel Casanova is trying to forcibly take over CJHDevCo hotels and other developments allegedly because the developer is behind in its lease payments. CJHDevCo, on the other hand, claims that the BCDA has been withholding permits so it cannot develop the full 18 hectares leased by it. So CJHDevCo filed for arbitration.

Endless Battle

The long-running battle between the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and Camp John Hay Development Corp which is also known as Camp John Hay in Baguio, led by businessman Robert John Sobrepeña  as he fights on and, from the looks of it, is nowhere near its end.

At stake is the control and possession of the 247-hectare section inside the former US military recreational facility in Baguio known as Camp John Hay. Sobrepeña’s group won the bid to develop the property in the 1990s, but stopped paying lease rentals to the government since 1998.
According to BCDA, the arrears of the Sobrepeña group have since ballooned to P3.4 billion (25 percent of which is supposed to go to the city government of Baguio).

9 out of 10 Filipinos Plagued With Cavities

Filipinos, regardless of age or socio-economic status, have all suffered from a cavity. Figures released by the Department of Health revealed that nine out of ten Filipinos suffer from cavities or tooth decay.[2] Your child could be one of them. Tooth decay or cavities is the top chronic health concern for children all over the world[3], which, when left untreated, can compromise a child’s eating and sleeping habits, as well as affect their self-confidence. A child suffering from severe cavities may experience difficulty in concentrating on school work, speaking, and even sleeping. Gerlie, a mother of two, shares, “I wasn’t aware that my child was suffering from cavities until one day he cried because of his very painful toothache. He couldn’t move and wasn’t able to do much else until the pain  went away. He didn’t even have the appetite to eat or the energy to go to school.”  These result in increasingly escalating detrimental effects on health, school and work performance, and even self-esteem. Aside from compromising a child’s eating habits, severe decay in baby teeth can have serious consequences for a child’s speech and jaw development.
